Understanding Personal Statistics PDF Print E-mail

Stats can give you a good idea as to where your strengths and weaknesses are:

  1. Total number of matches. Usually the more you wrestle, the better you get. Coaches would like to see everyone wrestle 20 matches or more each season.
  2. Wins verses Losses. Generally when starting out, your losses may out number your wins. Remember, the harder you try at practice and the more practices you come to the better your chances of a winning season.
  3. Pins. If you get pinned more than a couple times in a season, you need to work on your balance or your desire to win.
  4. Take downs. One of the most important stats because it’s a good indicator as to how good of a wrestler you are. Usually the take downs also match up with your win/loss record. The larger the spread in your favor- the better wrestler you are.
  5. Reversals. Generally show how well you have mastered your moves and how quick you move on your feet.
  6. Escapes. Probably the least important stat. They either mean you were hard to keep on the mat or that you were let up so your opponent could take you down again.
  7. Two and Three Point Near falls. Good indicator on how aggressive you are to go for the pin. Near-fall points in your opponents favor could mean you need to work on your balance or your movement on bottom.

All these stats can be improved with hard work and lots of practice…............See you at PRACTICE!
